On Tuesday night, members from the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company hosted a training class offered by Baltimore Gas and Electric. Senior Utility Instructors Richard Stevens and Jack Deckelman taught members from the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company, as well as Hampstead Volunteers and Boring Volunteers. Members learned about the hazards associated with incidents and scenes involving electrical transmission wires and natural gas transmission and emergencies. BGE is responsible for the transmission of electricity to over 1.2 million residential customers and natural gas to over 650,000 residential customers over a coverage area of approximately 2,300 square miles. Frequently, when an emergency occurs involving the electrical grid or natural grass pipeline system, firefighters are often the first responders to arrive on the scene. By coordinating with BGE, firefighter's training is tailored to be able to safely mitigate the hazard, while protecting themselves and the members of the community. The members of Arcadia Volunteers were pleased to host the BGE Gas and Electric Emergencies class on the heals of their receipt of a grant supported by BGE.
