| On April 24th, Firefighter and EMT Gene Kirchner of the Reisterstown VFC was critically injured in a house fire in Reisterstown. Today, Gene is still in critical condition at Shock Trauma. Staff at Shock Trauma have encouraged the family to make his room as close to home as possible and they would love pictures and cards to post. Anyone wishing to send a card to Gene, please send it to RVFC and they will see that it makes it to Gene's room. The Address is:
Reisterstown VFC
Attn: Gene
108 Main St
Reisterstown, MD 21136
Since arriving at Shock Trauma, Gene has begun the process of recovery. As of late this morning, Gene had managed to go the entire night without having a seizure, and motrin has helped to break a fever that had developed. Gene had also taken two breaths on his own. The doctors have weaned him off most of his sedation, so that he may wake up on his own (no longer in a medically induced coma). An online blog has also been established where visitors can go and see updates on Gene's status and leave messages online. This can be found at www.caringbridge.org and searching for "genekirchner", no spaces. |
