| Friday marks an annual tradition in many households across the country; Halloween. Many kids will be celebrating this holiday by dressing up in costumes, gathering candy from neighbors, and having fun with many of their friends. But are how safe are your kids this Halloween? The Officers and Members of the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind kids and parents alike to be safe while out trick-or-treating. The NFPA and CDC have a few suggestions to make this a fun and safe holiday.
1. Make sure that kids costumes are bright and easily seen. Also, make sure to avoid loose and long trailing fabric, and make sure that masks have eyelettes large enough to be see out of. Whenever possible, costumes should be made of fire proof materials, or sprayed with a fire retardant.
2. Make sure kids are equipped with flashlights to see and be seen.
3. When possible, use battery-operated candles in jack-o-lanterns. If not, use significant caution using real candles.
4. Only eat factory sealed candy, and be sure to inspect it before eating.
And, as a reminder to those who will be out in the area, but not celebrating the holiday, please remember to be extremely cautious and on the lookout for heavy pedestrian traffic, especially children. Have a safe and fun Halloween. And be sure to stop by the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company and show off your costume for some treats! |
